Scripture to Read: Romans 1:17
Today we finish with this statement in Romans 1:17 as it is written, “But the righteous man shall live by faith.” As God led Paul to write, Paul quoted directly from Habakkuk 2:4, “Behold, as for the proud one, His soul is not right within him; But the righteous will live by his faith.” Our righteousness in Christ gives us “life” through Christ. But, those living without Christ are dead in their sin. People have always tried to make themselves “right” with God through their “good works.” But, man's “good works” will never measure up to God’s perfect righteousness. That is why God tells us this in Galatians 3:11, Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, “The righteous man shall live by faith.” So, here we see again, in Galatians 3:11, how God led Paul to quote from Habakkuk 2:4. Being made alive through Christ means our lives will look different from when we were dead in our sin. Our life looking different is what God led James to write in James 2. Our faith in Christ becomes evident to everyone as we live according to Christ's transformation in our lives. God even tells us in James 2:17, Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. So, our obedience to Christ is what shows that we have truly placed our faith in Christ. So, we come right back to God’s Truth in Romans 1:17, that a righteous man LIVES by faith.
