Scripture to Read: Revelation 3:5-6
As we finish up Jesus’ letter to the church in Sardis, we find Jesus reminding those who are dead in their sin that they not only must “wake up” but then they must also walk in faithful endurance to Him. Living the Christian life is hard, and it is a call to die to ourselves and follow Christ no matter the cost. Jesus makes it clear that only those who overcome will be clothed in white garments, and their names will NEVER be blotted out of the book of life. To overcome can only be accomplished by trusting in Christ with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength. God tells us in 1 John 5:4 that our faith is the key to overcoming this world (For whoever has been born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith.) Jesus also says that He will confess the names of those who repent before His Father and before His angels. But for those who remain asleep, their names will never be written in the book of life and they will be thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire). For all of us who know Christ, we must continue to persevere, knowing that we will one day receive our garments of righteousness through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let’s be sure and continue to confess Him to everyone we meet.
