Day 6

Scripture to Read: Revelation 3:4

The good news today is that there were a faithful few who were still left in Sardis. These were people who had not “soiled their garments.” Jesus said in Revelation 3:4, “But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments; and they will walk with Me in white, for they are worthy.” So, those believers in Sardis were pure; they were worthy in and through Christ. The fact that Christ calls the believers “worthy” speaks volumes. Too often, we, as believers, do not see ourselves as worthy because we focus too much on our past faults and failures. But here we read how Christ calls the believers in Sardis worthy because they had not “soiled their garments.” In other words, the believers in Sardis were choosing to walk in obedience to our Lord. Also, the believers in Sardis had not continued to live in sin for they were no longer “dead,” but they were “alive” in Christ. God tells us in Colossians 2:13, When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions. The believers in Sardis knew full well that their new position in Christ was that Christ completely forgave them of all of their sins. We, as believers, need to believe this incredible Truth from our Lord, that we are completely forgiven and that our Lord sees us as worthy in Him. True freedom in Christ only comes when we fully believe His Truth.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you about your worthiness and all that Christ has forgiven you? 2. How will you choose to walk in the truth that you are worthy in Christ?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We continue our journey through Revelation. This week we focus on Revelation 3:1-6 and our Lord’s Words to the church in Sardis. As we begin, we must remember that the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ has been given in order to reach everyone who is dead in their sin. When someone who is dead in their sin hears the message of Christ, repents, ...

Day 2

We continue today in Revelation 3:1 because of our Lord’s strong words to the church in Sardis being “dead.” We have all known churches that appear to be doing well. They may have what seems like great preaching, programs, worship, and even will have big crowds, but the people who fill that church do not know our Lord. The indictment on the c...

Day 3

As we saw in the first two devotions this week, Jesus had captured the image of what happened to the city of Sardis. Remember from yesterday’s devotion that the guards of Sardis trusted in the city’s steep cliffs for protection but failed to be watchmen of the city. In the same way, the church in Sardis trusted in itself and remained “dead” t...

Day 4

We know that our Lord Jesus Christ has called the church in Sardis to “wake up” because they were dead in their sin. Remember, the people in this church thought they were alive, but Jesus proclaimed them dead. If the church in Sardis did not wake up, just as their enemies had overtaken their city, so the church would suffer great loss by miss...

Day 5

Since we did not get a chance to finish with Revelation 3:3 in yesterday’s devotion, we will wrap it up today. We know Jesus told the church in Sardis that they must keep His Word and that they had to repent. The only way to come into a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ is to recognize first that we are sinners and that we are lost in o...

Day 7

As we finish up Jesus’ letter to the church in Sardis, we find Jesus reminding those who are dead in their sin that they not only must “wake up” but then they must also walk in faithful endurance to Him. Living the Christian life is hard, and it is a call to die to ourselves and follow Christ no matter the cost. Jesus makes it clear that only...
