Scripture to Read: Psalm 8:6–9
When God got ready to create Adam and Eve, God said this about them in Genesis 1:26, 28, “…and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” God created us to be in charge of His creation and to steward well all He has placed under our care. We are not to worship His creation, which is what too many have been deceived into thinking and doing. We are to rule over, reign, and govern what God has given us. We’re the only part of God’s creation made in His image. Therefore, we must care for His creation and use the resources He has given us to meet the needs of everyone around us. As God led David to write, David penned these words in Psalm 8:6–8, “You make him to rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, 7 All sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, 8 The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea, whatever passes through the paths of the seas.” God’s perfect design is that His creation be a blessing to us and not that we worship it.
