Day 7

Scripture to Read: Psalm 51:16–19

God had David finish Psalm 51 by discussing what God really desires from all who have sinned. God had David write in Psalm 51:16–19, “For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; You are not pleased with burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. 18 By Your favor do good to Zion; Build the walls of Jerusalem. 19 Then You will delight in righteous sacrifices, in burnt offering and whole burnt offering; Then young bulls will be offered on Your altar.” The sacrifice of animals still happened every day in David’s day. But God desired something so much more before the sacrifice of an animal; He desired a person to be broken over their sins and to humbly come before Him to confess their sins. We know that Christ’s sacrifice on the cross has paid in full the debt of our sins, but we must still humbly come before our Lord broken over our sins as we confess our sins to Him. We must never treat our sins lightly or think that our sins are not that bad. God gave His all through Christ so we could have His righteousness dwell in us and live wholeheartedly for Him. After David came to God broken, David was ready to offer to God a blood sacrifice as payment for his sins. When we come to God broken over our sins, Christ has already made the payment, so we can tearfully thank God for His incredible forgiveness through Christ.

Day 1

God led David to write many of the Psalms, and Psalm 51 is no exception. God had sent Nathan, the prophet, to lovingly rebuke David for David’s sin of committing adultery with Bathsheba. As David’s heart was broken over his sin, he was led by our Lord to write Psalm 51. The beauty of Psalm 51 is that much of what David asked for has been comp...

Day 2

David was allowed by God to share the incredible brokenness David was going through over his sin. God allowed David to write in Psalm 51:3–5, “For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against You, You only, I have sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are justified when You speak and blameless when You j...

Day 3

God is Truth, so as God led David to write, we read in Psalm 51:6, “Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, and in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom.” God desires us to be full of Him and not ourselves; that is why He desires Truth to fill our innermost being. When we walk in God’s Truth, are full of His Spirit, and are cr...

Day 4

There are a lot of Christians today who, when they sin, will still pray Psalm 51:10–11, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me away from Your presence and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.” The reason many pray this is because they still do not understand what Christ has done for us. ...

Day 5

We have much to be thankful for as followers of our Lord and Savior Jesus, the Christ (Messiah). When we sin, we know we must repent (turn back to our Lord) and confess our sin (1 John 1:9) to stay in right fellowship with our Lord. Our relationship with our Lord never changes, for we will always be His children, but our fellowship with Him i...

Day 6

God loves us so much and loves when we choose to have sweet fellowship with him each day. He wants nothing more than for us to be sure we do not miss everything He has for us each day, including the tests and trials. We all know the distance we feel from God when we sin, though He does not go anywhere. We feel this distance because we are the...
