Day 2

Scripture to Read: Psalm 51:3–5

David was allowed by God to share the incredible brokenness David was going through over his sin. God allowed David to write in Psalm 51:3–5, “For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against You, You only, I have sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are justified when You speak and blameless when You judge. 5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me.” Again, David’s sin was heavy upon him. One of those reasons is because Satan is called “the accuser of our brethren” in Revelation 12:10. Satan and the spiritual forces of darkness love to remind us of our past. But another reason David’s heart was heavy was from the conviction of God’s Holy Spirit on him. Conviction is good, for God’s conviction brings us to repent of our sins. Though we, as Christians, have been fully forgiven of our sins (past, present, and future), we must still repent when we sin and confess (1 John 1:9) our sins to God to stay in right fellowship with Him. But condemnation is not from God and robs us of God’s peace. Condemnation leads us to a life full of guilt and shame, and that is not from our Heavenly Father. We, like David, know we are sinners born into sin. But the Good News is that through Christ, we are set free from our sinful nature (Romans 6:8–14) so that we are slaves of Christ and no longer slaves of sin.

Challenge & Application

· When God’s conviction comes into your life due to your sin, how should you deal with your sin from what you learned today? · How have you overcome when the spiritual forces of darkness have tried to defeat you through shame and guilt?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God led David to write many of the Psalms, and Psalm 51 is no exception. God had sent Nathan, the prophet, to lovingly rebuke David for David’s sin of committing adultery with Bathsheba. As David’s heart was broken over his sin, he was led by our Lord to write Psalm 51. The beauty of Psalm 51 is that much of what David asked for has been comp...

Day 3

God is Truth, so as God led David to write, we read in Psalm 51:6, “Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, and in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom.” God desires us to be full of Him and not ourselves; that is why He desires Truth to fill our innermost being. When we walk in God’s Truth, are full of His Spirit, and are cr...

Day 4

There are a lot of Christians today who, when they sin, will still pray Psalm 51:10–11, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me away from Your presence and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.” The reason many pray this is because they still do not understand what Christ has done for us. ...

Day 5

We have much to be thankful for as followers of our Lord and Savior Jesus, the Christ (Messiah). When we sin, we know we must repent (turn back to our Lord) and confess our sin (1 John 1:9) to stay in right fellowship with our Lord. Our relationship with our Lord never changes, for we will always be His children, but our fellowship with Him i...

Day 6

God loves us so much and loves when we choose to have sweet fellowship with him each day. He wants nothing more than for us to be sure we do not miss everything He has for us each day, including the tests and trials. We all know the distance we feel from God when we sin, though He does not go anywhere. We feel this distance because we are the...

Day 7

God had David finish Psalm 51 by discussing what God really desires from all who have sinned. God had David write in Psalm 51:16–19, “For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; You are not pleased with burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise....
