Scripture to Read: Psalm 51:6–9
God is Truth, so as God led David to write, we read in Psalm 51:6, “Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, and in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom.” God desires us to be full of Him and not ourselves; that is why He desires Truth to fill our innermost being. When we walk in God’s Truth, are full of His Spirit, and are crucifying our fleshly desires, then we are guarded against the lies of the enemy. David committed adultery with Bathsheba because he believed the lie of the enemy that David could have Bathsheba to fulfill his lustful pleasures. God is also our wisdom, even as God reminds us in Colossians 2:3 that in Christ “are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” To walk in right fellowship with God means we’ll walk in the fullness of His wisdom. Then, God allowed David to write in Psalm 51:7, “Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” This is another awesome reminder that in Christ, we have already been made whiter than snow and cleansed from all our sins (Colossians 1:13–14, 1 Peter 2:24–25). What David was asking for has been fully completed through the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. So, as David wrote in Psalm 51:8–9, we have the full assurance that in Christ, we have all joy and gladness, and all of our sins have been blotted out forever through the blood of our Lord.
