Scripture to Read: Psalm 13:5
We’ve seen in Psalm 13 that David went through a tough time, and he shared his heart with God. If we had stopped with Psalm 13:4, we would not have had the privilege of seeing the hope that David had in the midst of his suffering. God had David pen these words in Psalm 13:5, “But I have trusted in Your lovingkindness; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.” David knew that God’s lovingkindness would never fail him and that he could trust God’s work in his life because of God’s redeeming love. Notice, too, that David knew salvation was only possible through a relationship with our God and King. Just like us, David had to put his complete faith in God. As we face this life's tests, trials, and suffering, we know that we can trust God’s lovingkindness and that He is working His perfect plan in and through us. We must also choose to rejoice in our salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. Though our circumstances seem overwhelming, we must choose to rejoice in all that Christ has done for us and that He’s continuing to do. God never wants us to lose sight of Him, His Word, and His handiwork. A great reminder for us all is found in Philippians 4:4–5, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near.” We make the choice each day either to rejoice in our Lord or to let life’s circumstances control us. Remember, the choice is ours.
Challenge & Application
· What did David do that we must do no matter what we are facing each day?
· In what ways have you learned to rejoice in all our Lord has done for you and continues to do for you?
