Scripture to Read: Psalm 13:1
In Psalm 13, it’s incredibly obvious that the distance David felt from God was strong. David asked two other questions of God in Psalm 13:1, “How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?” For David to ask God if He had forgotten him shows that David was at a very low point in his life. We may get to a point in our life where we think God has forgotten us. The advantage that we have over David is that we have the complete revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ through His Word and His Holy Spirit in us. When we feel as low as David felt, we can open God’s Word and read His promises to encourage, sustain, feed, and minister to us. One of those promises is found in Hebrews 13:5–6, “Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, ‘I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,’ 6 so that we confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?’” God never wants us to cling to anything in this world but to cling to Him and His Word and to find our contentment in Him because He promises that He’ll never leave us or forsake us. Sometimes, our feelings can be so strong that we begin to doubt God’s promises. Therefore, we must bathe our minds and hearts with His Word to overcome.
