Scripture to Read: Psalm 13:3
David sought the Lord in the midst of his suffering instead of cursing the Lord or turning away from the Lord. As David continued to pray, he said in Psalm 13:3, “Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; Enlighten my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death.” Too many people, when facing the struggles in life, will often turn away from our Lord and speak evil of Him. But David came to God and petitioned His throne of grace for answers. David asked God to open his eyes and restore His light and life to his eyes. David knew he was not seeing clearly due to his vision being clouded by the suffering he was facing. We must ask God daily to keep our eyes open to the fullness of Who He is and who we are in Him. God led Paul to pray in Ephesians 1:18–20 for all believers, “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might 20 which He brought about in Christ.” We overcome our suffering when we know our hope is in Christ, that all Christians are God’s rich and glorious inheritance, and that we understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us as His children. Our eyes are the gateway to our soul.
