Day 7

Scripture to Read: Psalm 130:7-8

What a wonderful week of being challenged by our Lord through His Word to be sure our hope is in Him and Him alone. As we finish with Psalm 130:7-8, God, through the psalmist, leaves a final challenge to Israel to “hope in the Lord.” Of course, this challenge is for us. We must make sure that we do not place our hope in anything this world offers us. All that the world has to offer us is temporary and will eventually fade away. Our hope is to be in our Lord, and God, through the psalmist, tells us why our hope must be in Him. We hope in our Lord because only in Him can we find and receive lovingkindness. God shows us his everlasting tenderness and compassion through our Lord Jesus Christ. Also, only in our relationship with our Lord do we have abundant redemption. From our devotions on days #1, #2, and #3, we know that redemption is the complete forgiveness of all our sins. The fact that through Christ we are redeemed from all our sins ought to cause us to shout for joy. We have our everlasting hope in Christ, and to miss all He’s done for us is to choose to live in the muck and mire of this world. Jesus reminds us in John 8:31-32 that if we truly know Him and not just know about Him, we are set free. God desires us to walk in the freedom, redemption, and hope that are in Him. Let’s be sure we do just that.

Challenge & Application

1. What are you doing each day to walk in the fullness of the hope you have in Christ? 2. How has the hope God has given you in Christ changed the way you see life and treat others?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Our Lord has us focused on “hope” this week. If we’re not careful, we can think of “hope” as unattainable because of the way we use the word in our English language. For instance, we’ll say, “I hope the weather is nice this weekend.” Or we’ll say, “I hope my team wins today.” When we use the word hope in this way we know in our hearts that we...

Day 2

As Christians, it is awesome to know that God rescues us through our Lord Jesus Christ from the depths of our guilt and shame of sin. The only confidence in our cleansing and healing is found in our relationship with Christ. Because of our faith in Christ's death, burial, and resurrection, we can confidently share this good news with others s...

Day 3

As God continues to speak to us through His Word and His Holy Spirit in us, we have a great question to ponder today. The psalmist in Psalm 130:3 asks, “If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?” In other words, who could ever survive God’s judgment if God kept a record of all of our sins? The obvious answer is that none ...

Day 4

As we saw yesterday, if God did keep a record of all our sins, then none of us could ever stand before Him. Righteousness is found only through our relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. As the psalmist shares in Psalm 130:4, the beauty is “there is forgiveness.” Daily, we need to thank God for the forgiveness that He has given us through o...

Day 5

We all live each day with some expectation of what our day might bring. We might expect to do well in any one of a number of things such as in school, in our job, in sports, in music, in a relationship, in eating right, in taking care of ourselves, etc.… But the psalmist in Psalm 130:5 says that he is living each day waiting on our Lord. In o...

Day 6

Our expectations and longings are quite the same. But as we read Psalm 130:6, we see how the psalmist uses military personnel as an example of longing for our Lord. In the NLT, Psalm 130:6 says, “I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn.” WOW! Consider what we long for each day. As th...
