Scripture to Read: Psalm 130:6
Our expectations and longings are quite the same. But as we read Psalm 130:6, we see how the psalmist uses military personnel as an example of longing for our Lord. In the NLT, Psalm 130:6 says, “I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn.” WOW! Consider what we long for each day. As the psalmist speaks of the watchman waiting for the sun to peek over the horizon, the watchman does not doubt that the sun will rise; he only wonders how much longer he must wait. God has given us His Word so that we know His every promise. Almost all of God’s promises have been fulfilled through our Lord Jesus Christ. The only promises yet to come are those that will happen during the great tribulation, His 1,000-year reign, and then the finalization of His judgment after the 1,000-year reign. God wants us to wait on Him the same way the watchman waits for the dawn. We do not wait wondering “if” He will do all that He has promised, but we wait knowing it will all take place; we’re just not sure exactly when. As the watchman waits for the dawn, he stays ever-watchful, fulfilling his duty to help protect the city walls and gates. We too, as we wait for our Lord’s return, daily walk in obedience to Him and His Word. We live our lives in a manner that honors Him, fulfilling His will as we obey Him.
Challenge & Application
1. We know our Lord is coming again and that our hope is in Him and His Word. How are you living in the hope He has given you?
2. How are you sharing the hope that is found through a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ with others?
