Day 2

Scripture to Read: Psalm 130:1-2

As Christians, it is awesome to know that God rescues us through our Lord Jesus Christ from the depths of our guilt and shame of sin. The only confidence in our cleansing and healing is found in our relationship with Christ. Because of our faith in Christ's death, burial, and resurrection, we can confidently share this good news with others so they have the opportunity to find complete hope in Christ as well. Part of the beauty of Psalm 130 is that God uses the psalmist to make us aware of our sin while also giving us the powerful assurance of His complete forgiveness. In Psalm 130:1-2, the psalmist is led by God to write, "Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord. 2 Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.” The fact that we can cry out to God no matter what our circumstances gives us great hope. But note that the psalmist asks our Lord to please hear his prayer. We know that the Holy Spirit did not yet indwell people as He has ever since the day of Pentecost in Acts 2. Since we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, we should never doubt that God hears our every prayer and that we do not pray alone (see Romans 8:26-27, Romans 8:34, & Hebrews 7:25). Even when we do not feel close to God, our great comfort, joy, and hope is that God continuously dwells in us and prays with, for, and through us.

Challenge & Application

1. Knowing God, through His Holy Spirit and through Christ, prays for, with and through us, how does that change your prayer life? 2. Who will you share this message of hope with this week?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Our Lord has us focused on “hope” this week. If we’re not careful, we can think of “hope” as unattainable because of the way we use the word in our English language. For instance, we’ll say, “I hope the weather is nice this weekend.” Or we’ll say, “I hope my team wins today.” When we use the word hope in this way we know in our hearts that we...

Day 3

As God continues to speak to us through His Word and His Holy Spirit in us, we have a great question to ponder today. The psalmist in Psalm 130:3 asks, “If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?” In other words, who could ever survive God’s judgment if God kept a record of all of our sins? The obvious answer is that none ...

Day 4

As we saw yesterday, if God did keep a record of all our sins, then none of us could ever stand before Him. Righteousness is found only through our relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. As the psalmist shares in Psalm 130:4, the beauty is “there is forgiveness.” Daily, we need to thank God for the forgiveness that He has given us through o...

Day 5

We all live each day with some expectation of what our day might bring. We might expect to do well in any one of a number of things such as in school, in our job, in sports, in music, in a relationship, in eating right, in taking care of ourselves, etc.… But the psalmist in Psalm 130:5 says that he is living each day waiting on our Lord. In o...

Day 6

Our expectations and longings are quite the same. But as we read Psalm 130:6, we see how the psalmist uses military personnel as an example of longing for our Lord. In the NLT, Psalm 130:6 says, “I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn.” WOW! Consider what we long for each day. As th...

Day 7

What a wonderful week of being challenged by our Lord through His Word to be sure our hope is in Him and Him alone. As we finish with Psalm 130:7-8, God, through the psalmist, leaves a final challenge to Israel to “hope in the Lord.” Of course, this challenge is for us. We must make sure that we do not place our hope in anything this world of...
