Scripture to Read: Psalm 130:4
As we saw yesterday, if God did keep a record of all our sins, then none of us could ever stand before Him. Righteousness is found only through our relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. As the psalmist shares in Psalm 130:4, the beauty is “there is forgiveness.” Daily, we need to thank God for the forgiveness that He has given us through our Lord Jesus Christ. As mentioned yesterday, in Colossians 1:13-14 and Colossians 2:13-14, we read that our sins have been completely taken away, having been nailed to the cross. Unfortunately, far too many Christians live in the shame, guilt, and regret of their past. We must choose to live in the present and realize what our Lord Jesus Christ has done for us. We also read in Ephesians 2:1, “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins.” We must NOT miss that God says we WERE dead, which means we are no longer dead in our sin. As the psalmist says in Psalm 130:4, we’ve been forgiven so that we walk in fear of our Lord. To walk in fear means that we have the highest reverence and respect for our God. We revere our Lord because He is our Lord. We are no longer slaves to sin, but we are slaves of our Lord Jesus Christ. Those without Christ are still enslaved by their sin. Every lost soul is dead in their sin, blinded by their sin, and controlled by their sin. Forgiveness and freedom are in Christ alone.
Challenge & Application
1. How are you living your life to show the highest respect and reverence for God?
2. How are you overcoming the trap of walking in your past, instead of living in the fullness of who you are in Christ?
