Scripture to Read: Psalm 128:3
God used the writer of Psalm 128 to give us another perspective on what His blessings look like for those who fear Him. Through Psalm 128, we’ve been challenged to fear (to be in reverence and awe, worshipping) our Lord. When we choose to fear God, we know God pours out His favor on us. Another blessing from our Lord is shared in Psalm 128:3, “Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine within your house, your children like olive plants around your table.” God is not giving us a guarantee here in Psalm 128:3, because sometimes our spouse and children will choose to rebel against our Lord and walk in disobedience to Him and His Word. But the odds are much greater for healthy families to exist when men of God lead their families to fear God and worship Him alone. When men lead their families well, their wives and children usually follow their example. God chose men to be the head of the family. God shares how men should lead their families in Ephesians 5:25–28, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. 28 So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies.” Blessed families are led by God-fearing men.
