Scripture to Read: Psalm 128:1
The second half of Psalm 128:1 says that the blessed person chooses to walk in God’s ways and live according to His commandments. Obedience and God’s blessings go hand-in-hand. God shares this Truth throughout His Word. God says it this way in Psalm 119:2–3: “How blessed are those who observe His testimonies, who seek Him with all their heart. 3 They also do no unrighteousness; They walk in His ways.” Notice how everyone blessed “observes” God’s testimonies, seeks Him with all their heart, and walks in His ways. God’s blessings are determined by our willingness to obey Him, imitate Him, seek Him, walk in His ways, and crucify our fleshly desires daily. God has so much to give His children, but many of us miss what God has for us because we choose our way and not God’s. We can say we love God, but the test of our love is in how we choose to obey Him and His Word. Jesus said in John 14:15, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” This same Truth is repeated in John 14:21, John 14:23, John 15:10, 1 John 5:3, and 2 John 1:6. If we want to be blessed by our Lord, then we must show our love for Him and His Word by walking in daily obedience to Him and His Word. Too often, we ask God for His blessings, sit idly by waiting to be blessed, and then wonder why we’re not blessed. God has told us how to be blessed, and it’s through loving obedience.
