Day 5

Scripture to Read: Psalm 1:4

There is a sharp contrast between Psalm 1:3 and Psalm 1:4. God gave us the beautiful picture in Psalm 1:1–3 of what it looks like for those who passionately pursue their intimacy with God through His Holy Word. But then God shifts to those who choose to have nothing to do with Him or His Word. We read in Psalm 1:4, “The wicked are not so, but they are like chaff which the wind drives away.” Just for clarification on what chaff is, we find here https://www.gotquestions.org/chaff-in-the-Bible.html that “Chaff is the loose, outer covering on wheat and other grains that must be separated in the threshing and winnowing process of harvesting grain. In Bible times, grain was threshed, or trampled, crushed, and beaten, on outdoor threshing floors to separate out the inedible parts of the grain, called chaff. The lightweight chaff would blow away on the wind or sometimes was burned as fuel. In the winnowing process, the grain was then tossed into the air, allowing the wind to further separate any remaining bits of the husk from the wheat. These bits, called chaff, would be carried away in fine particles like dust.” So, when God says the wicked are like chaff, He’s describing them as having little or no use, for they are dead in their sins (Ephesians 2:1–3) and their life apart from Him has no purpose. God knows how He has designed us, and it is for His purpose and to please Him as we walk in obedience to Him and His Word.

Challenge & Application

· What was your life like before you surrendered to Christ as Lord? (See Ephesians 2:1–3 and Colossians 3:5–9 for help.) · How have you seen your life changed through your relationship with Christ, and how will you share Him with others?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God used many writers to pen the Psalms; some writers we know, and others remain anonymous. For Psalm 1, the writer is unknown, though we know the author is God! God had the writer give us a contrast between someone who passionately pursues their fellowship with God and His Word and someone who pursues what the world offers. We read in Psalm ...

Day 2

The second part of Psalm 1:1 says that the blessed do not “stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers!” To “stand in the path of sinners” means to hang around with them and become a part of their culture. God wants all of His children to reach the lost with the Gospel of Christ. So, we must engage in meaningful relationship...

Day 3

There is something precious about the man or woman who receives God’s favor (blessing). God tells us in Psalm 1:2, “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.” Take a moment and think hard about what you delight in. Some people find sheer delight in food; for others, it’s clothing; then there are tho...

Day 4

There are so many benefits to getting into God’s Word each day. God’s Word feeds us spiritually, so we’re continually growing in our walk with our Lord and deepening our intimacy with Him. God’s Word guides us to make daily life decisions based on His Truth and not on what might feel right for the moment. God's Word commands us to crucify our...

Day 6

No one likes to think about a day of judgment when God has the final word on everyone’s life. Those who live without a relationship with Christ hope that the day of judgment is not real or that it will not be as bad as they think it will be. As Christians, we do not need to fear the day of judgment because God the Father already poured out al...

Day 7

God knows the hearts of all mankind. God knows who truly belongs to Him and those who are still separated from Him because they refuse to surrender to Him as their Lord and Savior. As people, we cannot know with 100% certainty whether someone is a Christian or not—now, we can come close to knowing because even our Lord Jesus Christ tells us i...
