Scripture to Read: Psalm 1:2
There is something precious about the man or woman who receives God’s favor (blessing). God tells us in Psalm 1:2, “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.” Take a moment and think hard about what you delight in. Some people find sheer delight in food; for others, it’s clothing; then there are those who delight in cars; still, for others, it’s sports, and of course, the list goes on and on. But God says that the blessed one finds their delight in His Truth. Too many Christians in the USA have grown cold to desiring God’s Word. Yes, Christians can choose to live sinful lives and turn away from their fellowship with God and His Word, but those who are God’s children will also be lovingly disciplined by God (Hebrews 12:7–11) when they choose to turn away from Him. But God does not want us even to consider walking this path of rebellion. God wants to give us His favor every day, and He loves to do this through us hungering and thirsting for His Word. God even tells us what it looks like to “delight in the law of the Lord.” We read in Psalm 119:14, “I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches.” God’s Word also says in Psalm 119:47, “I shall delight in Your commandments, which I love.” Note that in each Scripture, the Psalmist chooses God’s Word above everything else. We must do the same every day of our lives!
Challenge & Application
· Why is choosing to hunger and thirst for God’s Word so important?
· How are you choosing God’s Word over everything else this world offers you?
