Day 1

Scripture to Read: Psalm 1:1

God used many writers to pen the Psalms; some writers we know, and others remain anonymous. For Psalm 1, the writer is unknown, though we know the author is God! God had the writer give us a contrast between someone who passionately pursues their fellowship with God and His Word and someone who pursues what the world offers. We read in Psalm 1:1, “How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers!” God shows us several things here. He begins by saying that the person He is about to describe is blessed. To be blessed means to have God’s favor. Being blessed does not mean living without tests, trials, or tribulations. God has never said in His Word that those who follow and obey Him would live test-, trial-, and tribulation-free lives. God promises His children that we’ll definitely face tests, trials, and tribulations but that we can rest and trust in Him because we overcome this world through Him. So, to be blessed, God makes it clear that we choose not to walk in the footsteps of the wicked. As followers of Christ, we must carefully choose who we allow to influence us. God gives a great example in Proverbs 1:10–15 of who we should not listen to or follow. God tells us in Proverbs 4:14, “Do not enter the path of the wicked and do not proceed in the way of evil men.” God’s desire is for us to steer clear of all evil.

Day 2

The second part of Psalm 1:1 says that the blessed do not “stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers!” To “stand in the path of sinners” means to hang around with them and become a part of their culture. God wants all of His children to reach the lost with the Gospel of Christ. So, we must engage in meaningful relationship...

Day 3

There is something precious about the man or woman who receives God’s favor (blessing). God tells us in Psalm 1:2, “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.” Take a moment and think hard about what you delight in. Some people find sheer delight in food; for others, it’s clothing; then there are tho...

Day 4

There are so many benefits to getting into God’s Word each day. God’s Word feeds us spiritually, so we’re continually growing in our walk with our Lord and deepening our intimacy with Him. God’s Word guides us to make daily life decisions based on His Truth and not on what might feel right for the moment. God's Word commands us to crucify our...

Day 5

There is a sharp contrast between Psalm 1:3 and Psalm 1:4. God gave us the beautiful picture in Psalm 1:1–3 of what it looks like for those who passionately pursue their intimacy with God through His Holy Word. But then God shifts to those who choose to have nothing to do with Him or His Word. We read in Psalm 1:4, “The wicked are not so, but...

Day 6

No one likes to think about a day of judgment when God has the final word on everyone’s life. Those who live without a relationship with Christ hope that the day of judgment is not real or that it will not be as bad as they think it will be. As Christians, we do not need to fear the day of judgment because God the Father already poured out al...

Day 7

God knows the hearts of all mankind. God knows who truly belongs to Him and those who are still separated from Him because they refuse to surrender to Him as their Lord and Savior. As people, we cannot know with 100% certainty whether someone is a Christian or not—now, we can come close to knowing because even our Lord Jesus Christ tells us i...
