Day 4

Scripture to Read: Nehemiah 2:6-9

We read in verse 9, as God led Nehemiah, he began his journey. God had placed a burden on Nehemiah’s heart to get the wall rebuilt in Jerusalem. Nehemiah had prayed for four months. God gave Nehemiah the wisdom he needed, the vision he needed, and even the specific plan to get the wall rebuilt. Nehemiah also put his faith into action by making his request to the king. Then came the hardest part of all, doing the work. Being part of the project is where many people often stop. People back away once the real work begins because the ministry project is just too hard. God wants us to be doers of His Word and not merely hearers (James 1:22-25). God wants us to put our faith into action because without the work, our faith is useless and dead (James 2:14-26). If we are not careful, we can get caught up in listening to great sermons on evangelism and making disciples. We can get into great conversations with other believers on the importance of evangelism and making disciples. We can pray and ask God to send the right skilled laborers to do evangelism and make disciples. If we are not doing evangelism and making disciples ourselves, we’re missing out on putting our faith into full action. Nehemiah did not put together a team go to people and send them, but he put together a team and led them. God has called each of us to His work (Ephesians 2:10), and we must be ready to lead others in that work as well.

Day 1

God loves for us to be totally dependent on Him and to trust Him in every area of our lives. He desires us to fellowship with Him and let our requests be made to Him as we pray. He also desires us to be flooded with His peace so that as we wait on His answer, we not become anxious. God makes this clear in Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for not...

Day 2

We all have had days of sadness. Sadness comes when we are broken-hearted over something or someone in our lives. Nehemiah mentions in Nehemiah 1:1 that he had never been sad in the presence of Artaxerxes. The reason Nehemiah had never been sad in the presence of the king is that in the courts of many ancient kings, it was forbidden to be sad...

Day 3

God is always performing miracles. Sometimes we get so caught up in the busyness of life that we miss the miraculous work of God. We may see someone healed of a sickness, a surgery, or some other infirmity. Instead of seeing God’s divine handiwork, we simply give credit to the medicine or are thankful for the medical team who took care of the...

Day 5

When we consider that Nehemiah only had to wait four months before God answered his prayer, it was not a very long time to wait. Abraham was 75 years old when God gave him the promise of a son and to make him a great nation (Genesis 15). Abraham had to wait 25 years before God’s promise to him came to bear fruit (Genesis 21). Joseph was only ...

Day 6

Nehemiah, and the people the king sent with Nehemiah, had to travel 800 miles from Persia to Jerusalem. Once Nehemiah arrived in Jerusalem, the real hard work would begin to unfold. Nehemiah had to meet with the governors of the regions beyond the Euphrates River. The river was an important landmark because it separated one area from another....

Day 7

As we finish up the first half of Nehemiah 2, let’s consider what God has taught us so far this week. We know that God desires for us to rest in Him, to trust in Him, and to completely rely on Him in all areas of our lives, even when it is uncomfortable and inconvenient. We have learned we must have godly Christian friends in our lives who wi...
