Scripture to Read: Nehemiah 2:6-8
God is always performing miracles. Sometimes we get so caught up in the busyness of life that we miss the miraculous work of God. We may see someone healed of a sickness, a surgery, or some other infirmity. Instead of seeing God’s divine handiwork, we simply give credit to the medicine or are thankful for the medical team who took care of them. We need to be grateful for those who serve in the medical field and for medicine, but we need to see that God was working in them to heal and raise up the one who was sick. God worked a miracle for Nehemiah in Nehemiah 2:6-9. King Artaxerxes had asked Nehemiah in verse 4, “What would you request?” Nehemiah shared his request in verse 5, and in verse 6, the king asked Nehemiah how long it would take and when would he return. Our God is a God of detail. No doubt, during Nehemiah’s four months of praying that God laid on his heart and mind the details of all that would be needed to carry out this enormous task. Again, there is another miracle of God’s handiwork, so Nehemiah was prepared to tell the king what he needed. In verses 7-8, God led Nehemiah to share the details of what he needed with the king. Nehemiah knew God was at work, for we read at the end of verse 8 “the king granted them to me because the good hand of my God was on me.” May we never miss what God is doing, even in the small things.
