Day 6

Scripture to Read: Matthew 7:24–27

Jesus challenges the people, and of course, this challenge is for us as He says (in Matthew 7:24–27), “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26 Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.” We know God and His Word transforms everyone who walks according to His Truth. Jesus uses a great illustration of two houses built on two different foundations. Both houses faced the tests and trails of rain, floods, and winds as they slammed against each house. But the only house that stood was built on the rock. Of course, Jesus speaks of our lives, for everyone faces tests and trials in life. Those tests and trials can seem overwhelming at times. The only way to overcome and have victory through the tests and trials is through a solid foundation. Christ and His Word are the only foundation that will never crumble. God tells us in Ephesians 6:10–18 how to prepare ourselves for the battlefield of life, and He says three times to “stand firm.”

Challenge & Application

· Why do the tests and trials come according to James 1:2–4? · How do we make sure that we are still standing strong through the tests and trials we face?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus is drawing the Sermon on the Mount to a close. Jesus ends it by teaching some powerful Truths about salvation, false teachers, and making sure we choose wisely the foundation on which we stand. Jesus said, in Matthew 7:13–14, “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there a...

Day 2

Jesus told us about the wide gate and the broad road leading to destruction. Again, the sad truth is that too many are going in that direction and think they’re OK. Here is their problem: God’s Word tells us 2 Corinthians 4:3–4, “And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 in whose case the god of this world h...

Day 3

Jesus warns us about false teachers and how to recognize them. Jesus said in Matthew 7:15–20, “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? 17 So every good tree bears good ...

Day 4

As Jesus warned about the false prophets, He also gave us a way to know if teachers/prophets were false. Jesus said in Matthew 7:16, “You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?” We know what God’s fruit looks like because God tells us in Galatians 5:22–23, “But the fruit of ...

Day 5

Jesus declares an incredible wake-up call as He teaches this in Matthew 7:21–23, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, ’will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, a...

Day 7

When Jesus had finished teaching that day, here is what God’s Word records in Matthew 7:28–29, “When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching; 29 for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.” The powerful Words of our Lord Jesus Christ blew away the people. They said Christ taught a...
