Day 5

Scripture to Read: Matthew 7:21–23

Jesus declares an incredible wake-up call as He teaches this in Matthew 7:21–23, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, ’will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles? ’23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’” It’s hard for us even to imagine those who will proclaim all the things they’ve done for Jesus only to hear Him say “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.” Note what these people say they did, but don’t miss how it was done. Each time they mention what they did, they either begin or end by saying they did what they did, “in Your name.” This is important because the power was not in the people but in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Remember what God’s Word says in Philippians 2:9–11, “God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” The POWER is in Jesus’ NAME, and He is Who we must proclaim!

Day 1

Jesus is drawing the Sermon on the Mount to a close. Jesus ends it by teaching some powerful Truths about salvation, false teachers, and making sure we choose wisely the foundation on which we stand. Jesus said, in Matthew 7:13–14, “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there a...

Day 2

Jesus told us about the wide gate and the broad road leading to destruction. Again, the sad truth is that too many are going in that direction and think they’re OK. Here is their problem: God’s Word tells us 2 Corinthians 4:3–4, “And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 in whose case the god of this world h...

Day 3

Jesus warns us about false teachers and how to recognize them. Jesus said in Matthew 7:15–20, “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? 17 So every good tree bears good ...

Day 4

As Jesus warned about the false prophets, He also gave us a way to know if teachers/prophets were false. Jesus said in Matthew 7:16, “You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?” We know what God’s fruit looks like because God tells us in Galatians 5:22–23, “But the fruit of ...

Day 6

Jesus challenges the people, and of course, this challenge is for us as He says (in Matthew 7:24–27), “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did no...

Day 7

When Jesus had finished teaching that day, here is what God’s Word records in Matthew 7:28–29, “When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching; 29 for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.” The powerful Words of our Lord Jesus Christ blew away the people. They said Christ taught a...
