Day 5

Scripture to Read: Matthew 6:9–10

The prayer Jesus laid out in Matthew 6:9–13 is often called “the Lord’s prayer,” but the actual “Lord’s prayer” is found in John 17. What our Lord Jesus Christ gave us in Matthew 6:9–13 is more accurately called “The model prayer” because our Lord gave us a guide to lead us before God the Father’s throne of grace. Our Lord starts by saying in Matthew 6:9, “Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.” When we start our conversation with God, we must always recognize His Holiness, Worthiness, and Awesomeness and that He alone is God, Lord, King, Master, Savior, Provider, and so much more. God is the Only One who deserves recognition, though it seems that mankind gets a lot more recognition, praise, and honor than the God who created us. Jesus starts His prayer guide by praising, honoring, and glorifying God and God alone, and we must always do the same. Then, Jesus says in Matthew 6:10, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Jesus reminds us that God’s perfect will is what we must desire every day. We know and are assured of God’s will through deepening our intimacy with Him and His Word. God tells us in Romans 12:2, “…be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” God wants us to know and live His will daily; let's not miss it.

Challenge & Application

· What did God teach you about your prayer life and His will, and how will this change how you pursue Him and His Word? · How often are you giving God the glory, honor, and praise He deserves for all that happens in your life each day?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

Our Lord Jesus is teaching us about prayer, and He’s reminding us that to deepen our intimacy with our Heavenly Father, we must have times of one-on-one conversation with Him with no one else around. Jesus said in Matthew 6:6, “But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your ...

Day 3

Prayer is our incredible privilege to fellowship with our Lord God Almighty. Our Lord makes it clear, though, that He does not want us to “use meaningless repetition.” We sometimes wonder why we struggle with prayer because it often seems hard. God tells us in Romans 8:26–27, “In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not ...

Our prayer life is so important to God that He’s not only given us His Holy Spirit to pray in, for, and through us, but our Lord Jesus Christ is pr...

Day 6

In the model prayer, Jesus included in Matthew 6:11, “Give us this day our daily bread.” Jesus never wants us to take for granted God’s incredible provision for our daily needs of food and water. We must never forget that God is the ONE who has given us the gifts and talents we have so that we can work and help provide for our needs. But as w...

Day 7

Jesus dealt with forgiveness in the model prayer as well. Jesus said in Matthew 6:12, “And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Then, Jesus took the issue of forgiveness one step further in Matthew 6:14–15, “For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do...
