Day 4

Scripture to Read: Matthew 6:8

God taught us that when we pray, we never pray alone, for His Holy Spirit in us prays with us, for us, and through us. We know God is ONE but has revealed Himself to us as Father, Son, and Spirit. Our prayer life is so important to God that He’s not only given us His Holy Spirit to pray in, for, and through us, but our Lord Jesus Christ is praying with and for us too. God tells us in Romans 8:34, “who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.” Christ not only gave His life for us to set us free from sins penalty and power, but now He sits at the Father’s right hand praying for us. God’s Word says it this way about our Lord Jesus Christ in Hebrews 7:25, “Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” Christ lives to pray on our behalf. So, in light of God’s Truth, Jesus said in Matthew 6:8, “So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” We know God is omniscient (He knows everything), even knowing what we need before we ask Him, but He still provides us His Holy Spirit to pray with, for, and through us, and then also has our Lord Jesus Christ praying for us. His provision is abundant!

Day 2

Our Lord Jesus is teaching us about prayer, and He’s reminding us that to deepen our intimacy with our Heavenly Father, we must have times of one-on-one conversation with Him with no one else around. Jesus said in Matthew 6:6, “But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your ...

Day 3

Prayer is our incredible privilege to fellowship with our Lord God Almighty. Our Lord makes it clear, though, that He does not want us to “use meaningless repetition.” We sometimes wonder why we struggle with prayer because it often seems hard. God tells us in Romans 8:26–27, “In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not ...

Day 5

The prayer Jesus laid out in Matthew 6:9–13 is often called “the Lord’s prayer,” but the actual “Lord’s prayer” is found in John 17. What our Lord Jesus Christ gave us in Matthew 6:9–13 is more accurately called “The model prayer” because our Lord gave us a guide to lead us before God the Father’s throne of grace. Our Lord starts by saying in...

Day 6

In the model prayer, Jesus included in Matthew 6:11, “Give us this day our daily bread.” Jesus never wants us to take for granted God’s incredible provision for our daily needs of food and water. We must never forget that God is the ONE who has given us the gifts and talents we have so that we can work and help provide for our needs. But as w...

Day 7

Jesus dealt with forgiveness in the model prayer as well. Jesus said in Matthew 6:12, “And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Then, Jesus took the issue of forgiveness one step further in Matthew 6:14–15, “For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do...
