Scripture to Read: Luke 6:47–49
Jesus wants all of His followers to know that as we walk with Him, as we obey Him and His Word, that no matter what we face in this life, we’ll be able to stand firm and overcome. God had Luke record this in Luke 6:47–49, “Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49 But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.” Jesus gave us a beautiful picture of what it looks like, not just to listen to His Words, but also to obey them once we’ve heard them. Everyone in life faces tests, trials, and tribulations, but only those who follow Christ as Lord and walk in His ways are the ones who will still be standing once the storms of life pass. Our foundation is in Christ and His Word. God tells us three different times in Ephesians 6:11–14 to “stand firm” because of the spiritual battles we face each day. We stand firm in our fellowship with Him, and His Word gives us the solid foundation to walk in (Psalm 119:105).
