Scripture to Read: Luke 6:46
God led Luke to write what Jesus had been teaching His disciples. God had Luke record these words from Jesus in Luke 6:46, “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” Jesus asked one of the most powerful questions that every follower of Christ needs to ask themselves every day. If we are going to claim Christ as our Lord, then our lives need to reflect that He is our Lord. Lord means that He is in charge and we are not. Lord means that we don’t question what He’s commanded us to do, but we simply do it. Lord means we’re willing to crucify our flesh daily so that we do honor Him in all that we do, say, and think. God had Malachi the prophet record something similar as God asked the Priests of Israel in Malachi 1:6, “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. Then if I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My respect?’ says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests who despise My name.” Jesus also stated in Matthew 7:21, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.” Our lives are not going to be perfect, but if we claim Christ as our Lord, they should be different from what they were before surrendering to Christ as Lord. We must passionately pursue Him and obey Him.
Challenge & Application
Why is obedience a true sign of a transformed heart and life? (Also see James 2:14–26 for some help.)
