Scripture to Read: Luke 6:39–40
Jesus always wants us to choose whom we follow wisely and to make sure the ones we choose are following Jesus wholeheartedly. God had Luke record in Luke 6:39–40, “And He also spoke a parable to them: ‘A blind man cannot guide a blind man, can he? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40 A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher.’” Jesus asks an obvious question that all of us know the answer to: no one who is blind can lead someone else who is blind, and if they try, they will both end up falling into a ditch. Jesus was speaking of false teachers and leaders, for He called the Pharisees “blind guides” in Matthew 15:14, Matthew 23:16, 17, 19, and in Matthew 23:24. We must always be cautious about whom we choose to follow. There are many false teachers and preachers today, and if we are not reading, studying, and memorizing God’s Word, we can easily be led astray by someone who sounds good, but all the while, takes the Word of God out of context. Just because someone holds a title and has several degrees does not mean they are worthy to be followed. We must choose people who are walking with Christ and following Him wholeheartedly. We will become like the people we follow; therefore, we must decide to follow godly teachers. When we follow good role models, we become good role models ourselves. Let’s make sure we live a life worthy of following.
