Day 3

Scripture to Read: Luke 6:39–40

Jesus always wants us to choose whom we follow wisely and to make sure the ones we choose are following Jesus wholeheartedly. God had Luke record in Luke 6:39–40, “And He also spoke a parable to them: ‘A blind man cannot guide a blind man, can he? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40 A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher.’” Jesus asks an obvious question that all of us know the answer to: no one who is blind can lead someone else who is blind, and if they try, they will both end up falling into a ditch. Jesus was speaking of false teachers and leaders, for He called the Pharisees “blind guides” in Matthew 15:14, Matthew 23:16, 17, 19, and in Matthew 23:24. We must always be cautious about whom we choose to follow. There are many false teachers and preachers today, and if we are not reading, studying, and memorizing God’s Word, we can easily be led astray by someone who sounds good, but all the while, takes the Word of God out of context. Just because someone holds a title and has several degrees does not mean they are worthy to be followed. We must choose people who are walking with Christ and following Him wholeheartedly. We will become like the people we follow; therefore, we must decide to follow godly teachers. When we follow good role models, we become good role models ourselves. Let’s make sure we live a life worthy of following.

Challenge & Application

Why does Jesus want us to be careful and wise about who we listen to and follow? How are you growing in your walk with Christ due to your role models, and how are you doing in becoming or being one?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus’ teaching is often taken out of context, as people try to find a loophole into being able to live an ungodly lifestyle. As God led Luke to write, we read in Luke 6:37, “Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned.” This is a verse people love to quote as i...

Day 2

Jesus also spoke about giving. God had Luke record in Luke 6:38, “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.” Jesus does not want us to worry about giving from all that He has given us. We ...

Day 4

Jesus never told us not to judge each other; He simply prefaced it by saying we should judge ourselves first before deciding to come alongside someone else to help them in their walk with our Lord. God had Luke record this in Luke 6:41–42, “Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your o...

Day 5

Jesus used all sorts of illustrations when He taught, and He often taught in parables. Jesus wanted His listeners to understand and apply God’s Truth to every area of their lives. The same is still true today: God does not want us to simply hear His Word, but to take it to heart and apply it as we walk in obedience to Him each day. God had Lu...

Day 6

God led Luke to write what Jesus had been teaching His disciples. God had Luke record these words from Jesus in Luke 6:46, “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” Jesus asked one of the most powerful questions that every follower of Christ needs to ask themselves every day. If we are going to claim Christ as our Lord, th...

Day 7

Jesus wants all of His followers to know that as we walk with Him, as we obey Him and His Word, that no matter what we face in this life, we’ll be able to stand firm and overcome. God had Luke record this in Luke 6:47–49, “Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 he is like a man buildi...
