Scripture to Read: Luke 6:41–42
Jesus never told us not to judge each other; He simply prefaced it by saying we should judge ourselves first before deciding to come alongside someone else to help them in their walk with our Lord. God had Luke record this in Luke 6:41–42, “Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 42 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.” Jesus clearly teaches us to continually do an examination of our own lives so we can see clearly to help others who might be struggling in their walk with our Lord. Being in right fellowship with our Lord means we do not harbor any sinful attitude within our own hearts. God desires that we are in constant fellowship with Him, and as we seek Him and His Word, we can trust that He will reveal to us any area of our lives that is not fully submitted to Him. When God shows us hidden sins, we must confess them as sin and repent (turn away) from them to walk in right fellowship with Him. Then, as we walk with our Lord, He can use us to help others in their walk as well.
