Day 5

Scripture to Read: John 4:39–42

After the woman from Samaria went back into her city to tell the men all that Jesus had said to her, many Samaritans went to meet Jesus. We read in John 4:40–42, So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. 41 Many more believed because of His word; 42 and they were saying to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One is indeed the Savior of the world.” The people wanted to meet Jesus themselves and then invited Him to stay. Jesus and the disciples stayed in Samaria for two more days, and many more placed their faith in Christ because of hearing His Word. Interestingly, God even had John record that some told the woman that because they heard from Jesus for themselves, they knew He was “indeed the Savior of the world.” Jesus is not here in the flesh, but He lives in every one of us (His disciples) through His Holy Spirit. Therefore, we must share our story the same way the woman at the well shared hers so that lives are changed through the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Remember, some of Jesus’ last words to His original disciples, which are also for us today, are found in Acts 1:8. Jesus told us all that we are to be His witnesses; so, that is what we must do daily so others may know Him as we do.

Challenge & Application

• What was the people's reaction from Samaria to all that the woman told them? • Since we are to be Christ’s witnesses, how are you sharing your faith in Christ with those around you each day?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus is God, but He still needed daily fellowship with God the Father to accomplish all He was sent to do. God had John to continue to record what happened in Jesus’ life, and we read in John 4:31–34, Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So ...

Day 2

Jesus had just told the disciples in John 4:34, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.” God’s Word feeds us as we feast on His Word each day. We must be careful not to treat the Word of God like a cookbook. We know a cookbook has great recipes in it, and as we read the cookbook, our appetites are stirred. Bu...

Day 3

Jesus knew that the Samaritan woman had placed her faith in Him, and He knew that she had gone back into town to share the gospel with the people in her city. Jesus also knew that John the Baptist had been going through the area preaching a message of repentance, and his message had spread everywhere. So, the lives of the people in Samaria we...

Day 4

Jesus always has (and always will) use people who are willing vessels to accomplish His purpose and plans to bring honor, glory, and praise to God the Father! God never chooses to use the arrogant, prideful, or boastful, but He chooses those who humble themselves before Him. God tells us in 1 Corinthians 1:27–31, but God has chosen the foolis...

Day 6

Jesus returned with His disciples to His hometown of Galilee after being in Samaria. We read in John 4:45, So when He came to Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen all the things that He did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they themselves also went to the feast. The only reason the Galileans received Jesus was because they had seen ...

Day 7

As we read John 4:46–48, we see that Jesus is back in Cana of Galilee and that many people simply followed Jesus because they wanted to see another miracle. They did not believe in Jesus as Lord but were looking to be amazed at His power. The royal official had come some 20 miles from Capernaum to plead with Jesus for His mercy to be given to...
