Scripture to Read: John 4:39–4
Jesus always has (and always will) use people who are willing vessels to accomplish His purpose and plans to bring honor, glory, and praise to God the Father! God never chooses to use the arrogant, prideful, or boastful, but He chooses those who humble themselves before Him. God tells us in 1 Corinthians 1:27–31, but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, 28 and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, 29 so that no man may boast before God. 30 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, 31 so that, just as it is written, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.” Note that everyone listed in God’s Word here are not the people the world would highlight. The same is true for the woman from Samaria. She was an outcast in her city, but Jesus reached out to her and used her to share Him with her city, and lives were changed. We read in John 4:39, From that city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all the things that I have done.” The people believed because she was willing to testify about Christ and not worry about whether anyone would believe her.
Challenge & Application
• What kind of people does God choose to use for His glory and honor, and why does He do it?
• Why did the woman who had been an outcast have no fear to share Christ with the people who once scorned her?
