Day 3

Scripture to Read: John 4:37–38

Jesus knew that the Samaritan woman had placed her faith in Him, and He knew that she had gone back into town to share the gospel with the people in her city. Jesus also knew that John the Baptist had been going through the area preaching a message of repentance, and his message had spread everywhere. So, the lives of the people in Samaria were going to be changed and Jesus wanted His disciples ready to be a part of reaping a harvest of saved souls. Jesus told His disciples in John 4:37–38, “For in this case the saying is true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.” The disciples had not sown any seeds of righteousness yet, but because the woman of Samaria, John the Baptist, and of course, Jesus had sown the seeds of the gospel, the Samaritans were ready to respond. As God’s children, we must always be looking for opportunities that God opens for us to sow His seeds and reap a harvest. We must be praying Colossians 4:3–4, …that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ…; 4 that I may make it clear in the way I ought to speak. God wants to use us in His harvest field to share the Gospel of Christ. We must be ready at all times, for God is actively at work (John 16:8–11) in all lost people's lives.

Challenge & Application

• How did Jesus challenge His disciples (and you) to be ready for reaping a harvest in His harvest field? • How must you prepare each day to be ready to share the Gospel of Christ and reap a harvest?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus is God, but He still needed daily fellowship with God the Father to accomplish all He was sent to do. God had John to continue to record what happened in Jesus’ life, and we read in John 4:31–34, Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So ...

Day 2

Jesus had just told the disciples in John 4:34, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.” God’s Word feeds us as we feast on His Word each day. We must be careful not to treat the Word of God like a cookbook. We know a cookbook has great recipes in it, and as we read the cookbook, our appetites are stirred. Bu...

Day 4

Jesus always has (and always will) use people who are willing vessels to accomplish His purpose and plans to bring honor, glory, and praise to God the Father! God never chooses to use the arrogant, prideful, or boastful, but He chooses those who humble themselves before Him. God tells us in 1 Corinthians 1:27–31, but God has chosen the foolis...

Day 5

After the woman from Samaria went back into her city to tell the men all that Jesus had said to her, many Samaritans went to meet Jesus. We read in John 4:40–42, So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. 41 Many more believed because of His word; 42 and they were saying to the ...

Day 6

Jesus returned with His disciples to His hometown of Galilee after being in Samaria. We read in John 4:45, So when He came to Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen all the things that He did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they themselves also went to the feast. The only reason the Galileans received Jesus was because they had seen ...

Day 7

As we read John 4:46–48, we see that Jesus is back in Cana of Galilee and that many people simply followed Jesus because they wanted to see another miracle. They did not believe in Jesus as Lord but were looking to be amazed at His power. The royal official had come some 20 miles from Capernaum to plead with Jesus for His mercy to be given to...
