Day 4

Scripture to Read: John 21:15–17

Our Lord Jesus Christ loves us with His everlasting love, and He hates when we are not in right fellowship with Him and the Father through His Spirit. There is no doubt that Peter had the nagging memory of denying His Lord. It had not been but a few days, or possibly a week, since it had happened. Our Lord provides us with a beautiful way to get back into right fellowship with Him when we have sinned. God tells us in 1 John 1:9, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. To confess means, as He convicts our hearts of our sin, we therefore agree with Him that we have sinned against Him. We need not do anything else, for it is by His great mercy, grace, and love that He has forgiven us through the shed blood of our Lord Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:13–14, Colossians 2:13–14, Ephesians 1:7). Peter needed to be renewed in his fellowship with Christ. So, Jesus asks Peter three times in John 21:15–17 if Peter loves Him. It’s awesome that our Lord asked Peter three times since Peter had denied Him three times. In the days, weeks, months, and years ahead, this would have been a constant reminder for Peter of how much Jesus loved him. Jesus also confirmed for Peter His call upon Peter’s life. Jesus did not want Peter to see fishing as something he could return to. Jesus wanted Peter focused on His mission for him.

Challenge & Application

• We know our Lord desires us to stay in right fellowship with Him daily; so, what does that look like for you? • God has a mission for each of His children. What is His mission for you right now, and how are you fulfilling it?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus had risen and shown Himself to the disciples twice in the room where they had stayed during the three days that Jesus’ body was in the tomb. As God led John to write, we now read in John 21:1–3, After these things Jesus manifested Himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and He manifested Himself in this way. 2 Simon Peter...

Day 2

Peter and some of the other disciples, including John, had fished all night and now the day was breaking. God had John record in John 21:4–8, But when the day was now breaking, Jesus stood on the beach; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5 So Jesus *said to them, “Children, you do not have any fish, do you?” They answered Him, ...

Day 3

When reading God’s Word, we often move through it so quickly that we miss what God is saying to us. God then had John record this in John 21:9–14: So when they got out on the land, they *saw a charcoal fire already laid and fish placed on it, and bread. 10 Jesus *said to them, “Bring some of the fish which you have now caught.” 11 Simon Peter...

Day 5

After Jesus had Peter confess his love for Him, Jesus then said this to Peter: (John 21:18–19) Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to gird yourself and walk wherever you wished; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and someone else will gird you, and bring you where you do not wish to go.” 19 Now this...

Day 6

Most of us are very much like Peter. Even as we read, study, and memorize God’s Word, we may be thinking in the back of our mind, well, so and so needs to hear this too. After Jesus told Peter, “Follow Me,” God had John record this in John 21:20–23, Peter, turning around, *saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them; the one who also had...

Day 7

God used the Apostle John to give us God’s fourth Gospel. As God led John to close this book, we find this recorded in John 21:24–25: This is the disciple who is testifying to these things and wrote these things, and we know that his testimony is true. 25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they *were written in det...
