Scripture to Read: John 21:9–14
When reading God’s Word, we often move through it so quickly that we miss what God is saying to us. God then had John record this in John 21:9–14: So when they got out on the land, they *saw a charcoal fire already laid and fish placed on it, and bread. 10 Jesus *said to them, “Bring some of the fish which you have now caught.” 11 Simon Peter went up and drew the net to land, full of large fish, a hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not torn. 12 Jesus *said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples ventured to question Him, “Who are You?” knowing that it was the Lord. 13 Jesus *came and *took the bread and *gave it to them, and the fish likewise. 14 This is now the third time that Jesus was manifested to the disciples, after He was raised from the dead. Take note that Jesus had prepared breakfast for His disciples. He is our risen Holy King, but He chose to humble Himself again, as He did during His entire life, and Jesus met their physical need. Jesus knows what our needs are at all times, and He loves to meet our needs. Again, Jesus gave His disciples (and us) the perfect example of what we all must do as His followers: to be a servant to all. Our Lord has called us to serve others (Ephesians 2:10, Titus 3:8, Titus 3:14, 1 Peter 4:10) and to love them as He loves us (John 13:34–35).
Challenge & Application
• Why did Jesus serve the disciples breakfast?
• How do you love and serve your family, those at work, school, and others God has placed in your life?
