Day 7

Scripture to Read: John 2:11–12

In John 2:11–12, we read this: “This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him. 12 After this He went down to Capernaum, He and His mother and His brothers and His disciples; and they stayed there a few days.” According to God’s Word, Jesus had just performed His first miracle, and His public ministry had begun. Jesus, for the first time, had revealed His glory. To reveal His glory means He displayed His deity, that He was God, and those servants and His disciples saw His great power. Due to what His disciples saw, God’s Word says that they believed in Jesus and saw Him as the Messiah. We know we will see the disciples’ faith tested as we walk through the Book of John, but for now this was a defining moment for them. We each have that defining moment when we first placed our faith in Christ as our Lord and Savior. But we also know how our faith has been tested over the days, weeks, months, and years. The good news is that our faith must be tested so that we grow in our intimacy with our Lord. God led James to write in James 1:2–4, “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” God always wants our faith growing, so embrace the tests and trials as God grows you.

Challenge & Application

• How have you seen the glory of God manifested in your life? • How has your faith been tested, and how has it grown you in your walk with our Lord?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus’ ministry was about to begin, as recorded in the Book of John. We read in John 2:1–2, “On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; 2 and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding.” Jesus, His disciples, and Mary (the mother of Jesus) were all part of this wedding celebration...

Day 2

In Jesus’ day, probably even more so than today, the wedding celebration was an incredibly important part of the wedding. We read in John 2:3–4, “When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus *said to Him, ‘They have no wine.’ 4 And Jesus *said to her, ‘Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.’” In David Guzik’s commen...

Day 3

When Jesus addressed Mary in John 2:4, He said, “Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.” Most people today would say this sounds disrespectful, but we must understand the culture of Jesus’ day. Most commentators agree on this point—that what Jesus said to Mary was a term of respect. We don’t have any word in the E...

Day 4

We read in John 2:5–8, “His mother *said to the servants, ‘Whatever He says to you, do it.’ 6 Now there were six stone waterpots set there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing twenty or thirty gallons each. 7 Jesus *said to them, ‘Fill the waterpots with water.’ So they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He *said to them, ‘Draw so...

Day 5

As we continue our walk through the Book of John, we read in John 2:9–10, “When the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter *called the bridegroom, 10 and *said to him, ‘Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people have ...

Day 6

Many Christians have tried to say that what Jesus made was not really wine but grape juice. The problem with that line of thought is that we have to change God’s Word. The reason Christians today feel like it could not be wine is due to the way wine is made today. But, when we study the culture of Christ’s day, it is not the same as today. Sp...
