Scripture to Read: John 14:19–20
Jesus knew His presence on earth after He was raised from the dead would be for a very short time, and then He would ascend into heaven. So, Jesus told His disciples in John 14:19–20, “After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also. 20 In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.” The world would no longer see Him, but Jesus would show Himself to His disciples and they would become His apostles. There are no apostles today because an apostle was an equipper (Ephesians 4:11) called by our Lord that He appeared to in His resurrected body. God makes this clear in 1 Corinthians 15:3–8, "…Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also" Jesus knew He’d see them again after His resurrection. He would remind them (Acts 1:8) of His Holy Spirit coming to dwell in them so they could fulfill the ministry He had called them to do.
Challenge & Application
• As Christians, Jesus has called us to good works (Ephesians 2:10). How are you fulfilling those works daily?
• We know abundant life is only found in Christ; so, how are you walking in that abundant life daily?
