Day 7

Scripture to Read: John 13:16–17

Jesus finished His teaching on being a servant by saying in John 13:16–17, “Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.” No matter what title the world has given us, none of us is better than anyone else. In God’s eyes, we are His children and we are to imitate Him. God tells us in Ephesians 5:1, Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. When we consider what imitating God looks like, we must examine more of His Word. Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:48, “Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” We must walk in obedience to our Lord to live a life that’s worthy of Him. Jesus also tells us in Luke 6:36, “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” We are to show everyone the same kind of mercy that our Lord shows to us on a daily basis. Then God tells us in Ephesians 4:32, Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. We are to show others the same kindness, tender-heartedness, and forgiveness that our Lord shows us every day of our lives. Knowing God’s Truth is not enough—we must live His Truth—that is why Jesus said that the ones who are blessed are the ones who DO His Word.

Challenge & Application

• What does your life look like when you think about being an imitator of God? • What areas of your life need to be fully surrendered to our Lord so that you are imitating Him in all areas of your life?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God continues to teach us much as we journey through the Book of John. We read in John 13:1, Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. Jesus’ time on earth was drawing to a close, and thi...

Day 2

Jesus and the disciples were having the Passover meal together. As God led the Apostle John to write, we read in John 13:2, During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him. We know Jesus loved all of His disciples, and His love would have included Judas Iscariot. The problem was th...

We read in John 13:3, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God. Jesus knew God the Father had given Him all authority and had placed Him fa...

Day 4

We have all faced situations where we were uncomfortable for one reason or another. As Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, there is no doubt that it made most of them, if not all, feel a little uncomfortable. Peter was the only one to speak up and express his difficulty with having His Lord wash his feet. We read in John 13:6, So He *came to Si...

Day 5

Peter still struggled to understand what Jesus was doing by washing his feet. We read in John 13:9–11, Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head.” 10 Jesus *said to him, “He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.” 11 For He kn...

Day 6

Jesus had washed the disciples’ feet, and then He took His lesson to another level. We read in John 13:12–15, So when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am. 14 If I then, the Lord a...
