Day 4

Scripture to Read: Hebrews 8:9

God continues today to clarify for us why His first covenant was weak. It’s not that God’s Word is ever weak, but it’s the fact that we, as humans, are weak and unable to keep God’s covenant. God even says in Hebrews 8:9 that the Israelites, who God took by the hand and led them out of Egypt, could not keep His covenant. We may be thinking, “Well, maybe God’s covenant is just too hard to keep.” God’s covenant being too hard to keep is not the problem. The problem is that our flesh is bent toward sin and sinful actions; therefore, without God living in us, there is no way anyone could keep all of God’s covenant. God even refers to this in James 2:10, “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.” So, even if any one of us could keep ALL of God’s covenant, if we failed in just one of God’s Laws, we become guilty of breaking ALL of God’s Law. Knowing we can’t keep all of God’s Law shows us how deeply we need Christ, who is the Only One who lived a perfect, sinless life. God makes this clear in Romans 8:3 “For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: send- ing His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh.” God made it possible for our sin to be wiped clean through Christ.

Day 1

It’s truly a blessing when God makes His Word so evident to us that there is no question what He wants us to know. As God begins in Hebrews 8:1, the main point in everything He has taught us so far in Hebrews 1-7 is this: we have an incredible High Priest, our Lord Jesus Christ. Because Christ is our Great High Priest, He has been seated in t...

Day 2

God comes back to the role of the high priest here on earth and compares it to what Christ, as our High Priest, is doing for us. God repeats Himself throughout His Word. He knows we need repetition because we are often too slow to get His Truth the first time. Each high priest was appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices to God the Father...

Day 3

As we begin Hebrews 8:7, we see that God is defining the need for the second covenant through Christ. God wanted the first Jewish Christians to know that the covenant He (God the Father) made with Abraham could only be fulfilled through our Lord Jesus Christ. This covenant God the Father made could never be fulfilled through the Levitical pri...

Day 5

God the Father gives us a beautiful pic- ture in Hebrews 8:10 of what He has done for every follower of Christ. God the Father set forth this new covenant with the house of Israel, the descendants of Abraham. Who exactly are the descendants of Abra- ham? Every person who surrenders their life to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. God sets this ...

Day 6

God definitely loves ALL mankind. There are Scriptures upon Scriptures declaring God’s love for everyone made in His image. As we read Hebrews 8:11, it sounds like there’s coming a day when no one will need to teach anyone about God anymore. But that does not line up with Scripture. God gave equippers to the church to teach and guide us as we...

Day 7

God is so incredibly gracious and merciful to us, every day of our lives. God lovingly reminds us to- day that He is not only merciful toward all our sins, BUT he remembers our sins no more. The problem for most believers is that it’s hard for us to imagine God wiping all our sins away and not remembering any of them. But the awesome news, fo...
