Scripture to Read: Hebrews 4:10-11
As we focus on Hebrews 4:10-11, we continue to unpack what God’s “rest” is all about. All of us who have surrendered to Christ as Lord and Savior realize, or we should recognize, that we can “rest” from the weariness of trying to earn God’s favor through our good works. There are so many people today who think that their good works, that their good effort will somehow put them in good favor with the God of all creation. People weary themselves doing works that will never amount to anything when it comes to God’s Kingdom and glory. But, for all of us who are in Christ, we can “rest,” knowing that Christ fulfilled ALL of the Law for us. We can “rest” knowing that Christ completely satisfied God the Father’s wrath against sin, because He lived a perfect life, and sacrificed Himself to pay the full penalty for our sin. That is why we, as believers, need to pursue Christ and His Word every day passionately, so we walk in His “rest” and fulfill the work He has called us to, according to Hebrews 4:11. There is a misconception about “rest” in today’s culture. Many senior saints have bought the lie that they are no longer usable for our Lord’s work, because they are too old, or not relevant. This lie has left many ministries longing for skilled laborers to serve. We must “rest” in Christ daily, but never stop serving for He has invited us into His work for His kingdom and His glory.
