Day 4

Scripture to Read: Hebrews 4:8-9

The perfect “rest” we find in our Lord God Almighty, through our Lord Jesus Christ, will not be fully complete, fully received until Christ returns for His church (His bride), or until we go home to be with our Lord. Every believer that has already been called home has entered that perfect “rest” in our King. The “rest” that Joshua mentioned in Joshua 22:4 was not a completed “rest.” For if the “rest” Joshua spoke about was complete, then God would not have talked about another day of opportunity for His “rest” after what He spoke through Joshua. The “rest” that God wants us to understand here today in Hebrews 4:8 is the “rest” that can only be found through Christ and Christ alone. The “rest” that cannot be completed through good works, the “rest” that cannot be satisfied through following the Law of God, was fulfilled through our Lord Jesus Christ. We, who know Christ as Lord and Savior, have entered His “rest” because through Christ all of the Law of God is fulfilled in us, our Lord and King finished all of the “work” for our salvation. We still willingly serve our Lord here and now, but not to gain His “rest,” but because we have already received His “rest.” Why then do we feel unrest in this life? Because our flesh still hungers for the garbage of this world, and our flesh thinks we need something of this world to experience real “rest.” But true “rest” is only through a relationship with Christ.

Challenge & Application

How are you currently serving our Lord, in His work, and finding “rest” in Him? Who do you know that needs to hear this truth about finding true “rest” in Christ?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We see today that Hebrews 4:1 begins with the word “therefore,” so we know that we are considering all that God has shared with us so far in Hebrews 1, 2, and 3. We have to remember that Hebrews was written as a letter and that there were no chapters and verses when it was first written. So God is leading the writer of Hebrews to continue to ...

Day 2

As we continue to walk through God’s Word, we read in Hebrews 4:3 that God’s rest is for everyone who has believed in Him, who have put their complete trust in God the Father through Christ Jesus, our Lord. But we also see in Hebrews 4:3 that there are many who miss God’s rest, by choice, because they chose, and still choose today, not to bel...

Day 3

We continue to examine Hebrews 4, and today we focus on Hebrews 4:6-7. We find the word “therefore” again reminding us that everything we’ve read so far ties directly to what we’re about to read and learn. God uses the writer of Hebrews to give us more Good News. The Good News is that God has provided, through our Lord Jesus Christ, for all m...

Day 5

As we focus on Hebrews 4:10-11, we continue to unpack what God’s “rest” is all about. All of us who have surrendered to Christ as Lord and Savior realize, or we should recognize, that we can “rest” from the weariness of trying to earn God’s favor through our good works. There are so many people today who think that their good works, that thei...

Day 6

As we read Hebrews 4:12, it seems like there is a shift in thought from what God had the writer of Hebrews writing. But that is not the case. God is making the point that with everything that has been written so far, that this information is not for mere intellectual knowledge, but that it is the Word of God and that it needs to be obeyed. Th...

Day 7

As we finish Hebrews 4, we find that nothing is hidden from the God of all creation. It’s a reminder that even when Adam and Eve tried to hide their sin and nakedness, God knew all along where they were and what they had done. God is Omniscient (All-Knowing), and to think we can hide anything from Him is foolish. “Therefore” is the word that ...
