Scripture to Read: Hebrews 4:3-5
As we continue to walk through God’s Word, we read in Hebrews 4:3 that God’s rest is for everyone who has believed in Him, who have put their complete trust in God the Father through Christ Jesus, our Lord. But we also see in Hebrews 4:3 that there are many who miss God’s rest, by choice, because they chose, and still choose today, not to believe in God and His Word. God warns all believers not to walk as these non-believers walk in Ephesians 4:17-19. We also must not miss that God’s rest has been offered since Genesis 2:2 “By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.” God led the writer of Hebrews to mention this in Hebrews 4:4 reminding everyone, both then and now, that God’s works were completed from the foundation of the world and that God, in His patience and love for all mankind, is waiting for everyone who will believe in Him. As we already know, God loves to repeat Himself because we are so slow to get His Truth, so God reminds us again by having the writer quote Psalm 95:11, that some will not enter His rest. The ones who will not enter God’s rest are those who refuse to believe God, to put their trust in the redeeming work of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to walk in obedience to Him.
