Scripture to Read: Genesis 39:5-6a
We know God was blessing Joseph, so Potiphar put Joseph in charge of EVERYTHING in his household except for the food he ate. God poured out His abundant favor on Joseph and used Joseph as His instrument of righteousness in Potiphar’s house. As we walk with our Lord each day, we need to make sure we work in such a way that others see the handiwork of God in our lives. We also need to be aware of God’s handiwork in us. Joseph knew God was working on his behalf because he had a deep love and respect for God, as we'll see a little later in Genesis 39. Again, at this point, God's Word has not yet revealed to us the depth of Joseph's relationship with God. But we know God was with him and that God was blessing all that Joseph did. We need to be daily walking in such close fellowship with our Lord that we do not miss His handiwork in our lives so that when others see our “success,” we can tell them that God has given us all we have and that we’re thankful He chooses to use us as He does. God reminds us in James 1:17, Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. All that Joseph was given, he knew was from God. All that we’ve been given, too often, we think it’s all because of us. We must never rob our Lord of His glory and honor.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about His favor on Joseph and His favor on your life?
2. How are you declaring the handiwork of God in your life, and how are you thanking Him and honoring Him for His work in you?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
