Scripture to Read: Genesis 19:1-14
Today we begin to unfold Genesis 19 and our Lord’s judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah. Since our Lord is gracious and abounding in lovingkindness, He makes sure the two angels He sent to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah connected with Lot and his family to deliver them (Genesis 19:1-3). Then in Genesis 19:4-11, God reveals to us the wickedness of the hearts of the people who live in Sodom. As we consider the people in our world today, the wickedness of Sodom does not seem much different from the wickedness of many today. God’s judgment will come again, and that is why we must be diligent to share with others His gospel. There are so many around us who need to place their complete faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. We must remember that the lost in this world have been blinded by the god of this world. Because the lost have been blinded, they can’t see the light of the glory of Christ and His wonderful gospel (2 Corinthians 4:4). God wants us to shine forth His light and His Truth so that the blind might see and be set free from the power and penalty of sin. The lost souls in Sodom were beyond redemption. They had chosen to allow their hearts to become so hardened toward God and His Word that their hearts had become callous, and they had given themselves over to their fleshly desires (Ephesians 4:18-19). Even Lot’s sons-in-law missed being redeemed by their own choice. Many today make this same decision.
