Scripture to Read: Exodus 4:24–31
As we finish today, we find an interesting portion of Scripture as we read Exodus 4:24–31. For some reason, Moses had never had his son circumcised. The covenant of circumcision was set in place by God with Abraham back in Genesis 17:10, “This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: every male among you shall be circumcised.” God even told Abraham (in Genesis 17:12) that all newborn sons must be circumcised, “And every male among you who is eight days old shall be circumcised throughout your generations….” Again, we don’t know why Moses had been disobedient in this area of his life, but God was ready to take his life. We also don’t know why Zipporah performed the circumcision nor why she was angry. Maybe she finally understood how serious it was to obey God in all areas of their lives. What we do know is that God showed His mercy to Moses once the circumcision was complete. Then, God spoke to Aaron and sent him to Moses, just as God had told Moses in Exodus 4:14, that Aaron would come to him. God used Moses to share with Aaron all that He had commanded Moses to share. Aaron then shared these words with the elders of Israel and performed the miracles of God before the elders once they arrived back in Egypt. The people of Israel believed, and when they heard that God had not forgotten them, they worshipped our Lord. We also must obey God, worship Him alone, and serve Him well.
