Scripture to Read: Exodus 24:1–2
God had finished all the commands that He had given to Moses, but there was still something the people needed to do. Moses, along with “Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel,” were to come up and worship the Lord at a distance (Exodus 24:1). Hearing, reading, studying, and memorizing God’s Word should always lead us to worship our Lord God Almighty. As God’s Word says in Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword,…and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” God’s word was given to Moses, and he was about to give it to all the people. The Israelites had been out of fellowship with God too long, having been in bondage in Egypt for over 400 years. God needed to remind them that this was the time to worship Him. But there was still only one who was able to come close to the Lord and that was Moses (Exodus 24:2). But, as Christians, God lives in us. God gives us open access to Him and His throne room because of Christ. That is why God tells us this in Hebrews 4:15–16: “For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” What a privilege we have.
Challenge & Application
· Why should getting into the Word of God always lead us to worship God?
· How much more access do we have to God the Father than the Israelites and how are you taking advantage of that access?
