Day 2

Scripture to Read: Exodus 23:23–24

God’s provision for Israel was overwhelming, but what God has done for us in Christ far exceeds what the Israelites experienced. God promised the Israelites in (Exodus 23:23) that His Angel would go before them as He brought them into the Promised Land. Because of Christ’s death, burial, resurrection, and ascension, we now have His presence living in us at all times. God tells us in Hebrews 13:5, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.” The Israelites were promised by God that He would destroy their enemies, “the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites and the Jebusites.” But God reminds us that we are to be strong in Him and make sure we have His full armor on daily because our enemy is not of flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:11–17). God also warned the Israelites in Exodus 23:24, “You shall not worship their gods, nor serve them, nor do according to their deeds; but you shall utterly overthrow them and break their sacred pillars in pieces.” God wanted everything and everyone who was not of Him utterly destroyed. We might think this to be harsh, but God tells us that we must crucify our flesh because every desire of our flesh destroys our fellowship with Him and robs us of our hunger for His Word. God never deals passively with His enemies, and He does not want us dealing passively with our enemies either. We must constantly cast aside the things that tempt us and passionately pursue Him and His Word each day.

Challenge & Application

· What do we have that the Israelites did not have, and why is it so much better today because of what we have? · Why does God want us to destroy what distracts us from Him and His Word, and how are you doing it?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God had finished giving Moses the Ten Commandments, but God continued to reiterate several of His commands. God was making sure the Israelites knew what was expected of them to walk in right fellowship with Him. God also wanted them to fully understand what He would do for them as they passionately pursued Him by walking in obedience to Him. ...

Day 3

God has called every Christian to serve Him through good works (Ephesians 2:10, Titus 2:7, 14, & Titus 3:8). He has also given us His Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30) so that in our good deeds, we bring glory and honor to Him in the way we serve (Colossians 3:23–24). Though the Israelites did not have God’s Spirit living in them, God was still wi...

God promised Israel that He would drive out the inhabitants who were living in the Promised Land. But then God gave a warning to Israel in Exodus 23:32–33. God told the Israelites not to make any treaties with the inhabitants and not to accept any of their false gods. God knows how weak our “flesh” is, and He knew if the Israelites did not fo...

Day 5

God had finished all the commands that He had given to Moses, but there was still something the people needed to do. Moses, along with “Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel,” were to come up and worship the Lord at a distance (Exodus 24:1). Hearing, reading, studying, and memorizing God’s Word should always lead us to wo...

Day 6

Moses came down to the people of Israel and told them “all the words of the Lord and all the ordinances” (Exodus 24:3). The people of Israel received God’s Word, and, as God’s Word says in Exodus 24:3, “all the people answered with one voice and said, ‘All the words which the Lord has spoken we will do!’” The people of Israel said they were r...

Day 7

God’s covenant was sealed through the blood and then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went back up Mount Sinai. God’s Word tells us in Exodus 24:10, “and they saw the God of Israel; and under His feet there appeared to be a pavement of sapphire, as clear as the sky itself.” They did not see God’s face, because t...
