Day 1

Scripture to Read: Exodus 23:20–22

God had finished giving Moses the Ten Commandments, but God continued to reiterate several of His commands. God was making sure the Israelites knew what was expected of them to walk in right fellowship with Him. God also wanted them to fully understand what He would do for them as they passionately pursued Him by walking in obedience to Him. God promised to “send an angel” before them to guard the Israelites as they walked into the promised land. This was not a created angel but this was, and is, the Angel of the LORD. It was Jesus, as we have seen before, appearing in the Old Testament before His incarnation in Bethlehem. God told them (in Exodus 23:21) that His name was in Him (the Angel of the LORD). The name Yahweh is in Jesus. We also know that Jesus’ name is “Yeshua” (Deliverer, Savior). It was Jesus Who was with Israel in all their wilderness experiences. God the Father warned Israel to obey His voice and not to rebel, for He would not pardon their sin. Was God being unwilling to forgive? Not at all, but the Israelites’ disobedience would show they were not surrendered to Him. Just as all sinners today have been offered God’s forgiveness through Christ, these same sinners have chosen, by their disobedience, not to receive God’s forgiveness through Christ and also walk in the fullness of Christ. God then promised the Israelites that if they obeyed the voice of the Angel of God, God would be against all of their enemies and adversaries—what a promise!

Challenge & Application

· God was making sure the Israelites knew what He expected from them; so, how does God do that for us today? · How have you seen God protect you from your enemies (Ephesians 6:12) because of your relationship with Christ?

Day 2

God’s provision for Israel was overwhelming, but what God has done for us in Christ far exceeds what the Israelites experienced. God promised the Israelites in (Exodus 23:23) that His Angel would go before them as He brought them into the Promised Land. Day 3

God has called every Christian to serve Him through good works (Ephesians 2:10, Titus 2:7, 14, & Titus 3:8). He has also given us His Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30) so that in our good deeds, we bring glory and honor to Him in the way we serve (Colossians 3:23–24). Though the Israelites did not have God’s Spirit living in them, God was still wi...

God promised Israel that He would drive out the inhabitants who were living in the Promised Land. But then God gave a warning to Israel in Exodus 23:32–33. God told the Israelites not to make any treaties with the inhabitants and not to accept any of their false gods. God knows how weak our “flesh” is, and He knew if the Israelites did not fo...

God had finished all the commands that He had given to Moses, but there was still something the people needed to do. Moses, along with “Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel,” were to come up and worship the Lord at a distance (Exodus 24:1). Hearing, reading, studying, and memorizing God’s Word should always lead us to wo...

Day 6

Moses came down to the people of Israel and told them “all the words of the Lord and all the ordinances” (Exodus 24:3). The people of Israel received God’s Word, and, as God’s Word says in Exodus 24:3, “all the people answered with one voice and said, ‘All the words which the Lord has spoken we will do!’” The people of Israel said they were r...

Day 7

God’s covenant was sealed through the blood and then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went back up Mount Sinai. God’s Word tells us in Exodus 24:10, “and they saw the God of Israel; and under His feet there appeared to be a pavement of sapphire, as clear as the sky itself.” They did not see God’s face, because t...
