Scripture to Read: Exodus 19:1–3
God had delivered the Israelites out of Egypt, and they had been free for three months, as we see in Exodus 19:1, “In the third month after the sons of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that very day they came into the wilderness of Sinai.” Finally, they had reached the mountain of God, the place where God had met with Moses back in Exodus 3. When the Israelites reached Sinai, they camped in front of the mountain and waited as Moses went up the mountain to hear from God. Remember, God spoke to Moses, then Moses relayed to the Israelites what God had said. We must take to heart how much better our fellowship with God is today compared to the Israelites. We no longer have to search for God or go to a special place to find Him. We don’t have to ask God for His presence. We no longer have to ask God to be close to us or to help us be close to Him. We no longer have to wait for someone to speak to God on our behalf and then have them relay to us what God has said. Because of Christ, God now lives in us (Acts 1:8). When we pray, we know God listens because His Holy Spirit and God the Son pray with us, for us, and through us in the presence of God the Father (Romans 8:26–27, Romans 8:34, Hebrews 7:25). So, yes, we have a much better way to fellowship with our Lord each day.
