Scripture to Read: 2 Timothy 2:5-7
We know that Christ’s triumphal entry led to His mock trial, beating, crucifixion, death, burial, and most importantly, His resurrection. The life that Christ gives us is eternal, but it’s not just about the quantity of life; this life is also about the quality of life. Through that quality of life, we can live in such a way that honors our Lord in all we do, say, and even think. It is a blessing to have people within our families who have lived for Christ and who also led us to do the same. Timothy’s mom and grandmother both had a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ, and they discipled Timothy and led Timothy to our Lord. Not everyone has that kind of family heritage to look back on, but whether we do or don’t, once we surrender to Christ as Lord, we must choose to live for Him daily. We must choose to“ kindle afresh the gift of God which is in us.” The gift is God Himself through His Holy Spirit in us. As Christians, we have God’s gift of Himself living in us. We must choose to live through His power and not surrender to our fleshly desires. Our flesh always hungers for the garbage of this world, but God’s Holy Spirit in us hungers to live a life that honors God. When we feel weak, we must remember that God’s Holy Spirit in us is not a spirit of fear or timidness. God’s Spirit is a Spirit of power, love, and self-discipline. We must choose to live triumphantly through Him.
