Scripture to Read: Mark 11
God is sovereign in everything, which means that He is our supreme Ruler and King. God never lies and never makes mistakes. God’s leadership in all things has been and always will be perfect. As our Lord Jesus instructed two of His disciples to find the colt, we see that God led Mark to mention only the colt and not the donkey. We also see that God led Mark to write that the colt had never been sat upon or ridden. More than likely, God had Matthew mention both the donkey and the colt in Matthew 21 because the colt would have probably still needed its mother (the donkey). There are no mistakes in the Bible, but God allowed and led some of His writers to give more or fewer details as needed for His original audience and us today. The point is that we can trust God and know that our Lord Jesus rode on a colt that had never been ridden. In Mark 11, Christ tells the two disciples that if anyone questions them, to say, “The Lord has need of it.” We don’t know whether our Lord pre-arranged with someone or if God the Father prepared the hearts of those who would question the disciples to be gracious to the disciples so as not to be a hindrance to God the Father’s perfect will. Either way, what was carried out was the perfect plan of our Heavenly Father. The beauty in all of this is that we can also trust God in every area of our lives, even when it may not make sense.
